Set partially in Iron Age Britain and part in the Celtic underworld, the story begins when the protagonist returns from years of fighting abroad to his home coastline. The neurodivergent protagonist discovers that a cruel tyrant has taken control of his land. He interprets a dream as a message from his ancestor and feels his only path is to descend into the deep world: the mysterious underworld. This strange realm is filled with nightmarish creatures, unfathomable magic and insights which force the hero to face his past and question everything he understands about reality.
J.J.K McEvoy is from West Yorkshire, UK. He works as Forest school leader, teaching children practical outdoor skills and helping them connect with nature. He has worked for many years as a freelance Illustrator and is a keen nature lover and amateur historian. The Ravening Hearth is his first novel and it has grown out of his love of ancient history and the Yorkshire Dales.
