What’s this?

Meet Matty Swift, a young bookworm and ancestry buff from Percy Harbor, a small town in coastal Maine. Asked to write a family history for Dora Dowe, an elderly neighbor curious about her grandfather’s early life, Matty accepts with confidence. After all, she’s researched her own ancestors, seeking solace after a family tragedy. She moves into Dora’s creaky old home on the bluff overlooking town, and begins the quest.

Self-doubt creeps in when the grandfather’s past proves far murkier than expected, even when all the latest online bells and whistles are brought to bear. She doggedly rattles the bones, uncovering his trail piece by enigmatic piece, until frightening incidents make her aware that a mysterious someone else is on the hunt, someone who will not be denied. She’ll need more than smarts and persistence to bring the shadowy past to light: courage, daring, and help from people who love her.

The author spends half the year on the coast of Maine, in a small town not unlike Percy Harbor, immersed in writing, reading, sailing, walking the beach, and spending time with children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews
