What’s this?

The year is 1484, and following the untimely death of King Edward IV and the controversial coronation of Richard III, support is growing for the Lancastrian Henry Tudor. After more than ten years of peace, it seems like the War of the Roses is about to erupt into bloody battle once more.

Lord Joshua de Clare has been murdered at the annual Bardfield Horse Fare. Shot through the eye by an arrow. He was a loyal supporter of the Yorkist cause, and the Bardfield Bowmen, who he commanded, played an important role in the last three battles in the War of the Roses.

The Duke of Norfolk, John Howard, King Richard’s staunchest supporter, sends the Chamberlain of Framlingham Castle, Robert Stone to investigate the murder. Robert Stone takes his ward Kate Worthing, and the Duke’s squire with him to Bardfield to aid his investigations.

Robert needs to discover if the murder of Joshua de Clare was part of a Lancastrian plot, or whether his motive for his murder lies hidden in the past.
