Ever since childhood, Morgan has fought against Rome; then love joins the power struggle. As an angry nine-year-old, Morgan follows Queen Boudicca against the Roman invaders. In her teens, she helps her father win back his throne from them. But when her life is in danger from her own people, it is a young Roman legionary who saves her.
What’s this?
Morgan is the young daughter of Queen Cartimandua of Brigantia, a northern Britannic province allied to the invading Romans, and which has betrayed the leader of the Britannic resistance, Caratacus. Morgan is on the side of the rebels, and aged only 9, follows Queen Boudicca’s army. As a teenager, she schemes to set her father back on the throne of Brigantia. But her father’s out-of-control rebel army threatens Morgan’s life, as the daughter of a Roman ally. She and her mother are taken to Rome and placed under the protection of Emperor Vespasian. There she meets Caratacus, whose life was spared when he pleaded eloquently for mercy. And there begins a romance with the young Roman legionary, Gaius, who brought her to safety. After many life-or-death escapades, Morgan eventually returns to Brigantia as its young queen, married to Gaius.
After a career as a freelance advertising copywriter, I worked in a school and discovered that I loved writing for a Young Adult audience. A teen spy thriller series (Missing Dad) was followed by a huge interest in ancient Greece and Rome. Lioness is the first in a Roman trilogy, where each stand-alone book sets the adventures of teenagers against the power struggles of giant historical figures. It will soon be followed by Achillea (Julius Caesar) and The Thunderbolts Girl (Hannibal Barca and Archimedes).
