Maxwell Carlton is sure that Carlton Lodge is on the brink of falling down or being repossessed by the banks. Even if neither happen, central government are intent of building a new bypass through their most profitable land. Could it get any worse? Yes, it can! Maxwell and Maria’s daughter is marrying the son of the family’s sworn enemy. Please note: this book is over 160,000 words, so you will have three weeks to complete it, and the bonus will be £15.

Carlton Lodge unfolds in three acts. A cosy contemporary novel with touches of farce, humour, crime, and political intrigue, it brims with eccentric characters and outlandish plots.
The first act centres on the wedding of Lizzie Carlton, daughter of Maxwell and Maria Carlton. Beneath the celebrations, Maxwell schemes to raise funds to keep Carlton Lodge afloat, while Maria secretly pursues her own plan to support the family. Tensions rise when the bridegroom’s father, Raffael Messier begins to interfere — he is the pugnacious local MP with ambitions of becoming Prime Minister.
The second act follows in the aftermath of the wedding, as government manoeuvres over a proposed road bypass take centre stage. Raffael Messier is determined to force the project through and further his political career as well as fill his own pockets. The Carltons are unusually unfocused in their response, but they have their separate reasons. It also starts to emerge that all is not harmonious in Raffael Messier’s own marriage.
The final act brings all conflicts to a head: the Carltons mount a last attempt to change the bypass route. Plus Raffael’s current wife makes a final bid to secure advantage from her marriage.
I have self published four Science Fiction novels. I am currently ghost-writing a trilogy of Dungeons and Dragons style novels, and Carlton Lodge is my first foray into contemporary fiction. I love books and I am a keen reader. I live in London with my wife. We have two grown-up children.
