en and Trish are close friends who grew up in a Victorian townhouse in San Francisco, owned by renowned artisan Bayron Archinard. He entrusts Jen with preserving his hand-crafted historic home of moving walls and hidden maze-like passages that is both their living-space and playground. It is the Archinard family pride and home to some of Jen’s most wonderful and painful memories. She must confront jealous relatives with their own plans to profit from the house and its valuable artwork. At the same time, Trish confides that she has been hiding the emotional abuse in her marriage.
Amidst escalating tensions the women support one another through their personal struggles even as a betrayal is revealed. They look back on their shared childhood in the vibrant art scene of 1970-80 San Francisco with humorous, engaging and emotionally charged glimpses into the unconventional lives of their talented, creative parents, revealing the deep interconnectedness within an extended family.
Marti Walton Schoen is a Northern California artist who divides her creative focus between figurative ceramic sculpture and writing. After moving from New York to San Francisco she studied independently with Bay Area artists and earned a degree in Psychology. For decades she worked as a commercial artist before writing her first novel, which was inspired by the desire to explore the vibrant art and music scene of 1970-80 San Francisco as seen through the eyes of the children growing up with their artist parents during that time.
