Intertwined since World War II, this Cold War saga of five families from America, Britain, France, West Germany, and East Germany exposes their ordeal from the impending Soviet Union’s collapse. World events threaten their health, personal finances, and safety. Love they need is constantly pressured by destiny controlled by others … and bars happiness from those who deserve it. Please note: this book is over 180,000 words, so you will have four weeks to complete it, and the bonus will be £20.
Near the end of the Cold War, five intertwined families are scattered across America, Britain, France, West Germany, and East Germany. They are caught in the most transformative year since World War II.
Veterans who survived Nazi bombers, concentration camps, and the jungles of Vietnam watch a new generation step forward to inherit positions of leadership in government, business, intelligence, finance, and public service. Yet the world they are handing over is anything but stable.
Political violence and IRA terrorism dominate the lives of the family in Britain. In West Germany, a family’s hopes for reunification are shadowed by fears of economic upheaval and social chaos, while in East Germany, ongoing repression and demonstrations challenge a crumbling communist regime. In France, cultural tensions and financial uncertainty force difficult choices. Across the Atlantic, a family of American military leaders confront a rapidly changing world order while carrying the scars of earlier wars.
Against this backdrop of historic change, fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, grandparents and grandchildren struggle to shape their own futures. They battle illness, endure loss, confront long-buried fears, and discover that freedom often carries a price.
