A charismatic, best-selling author lives a life of excess—chasing danger, indulgence, and inspiration in equal measure—until a near-fatal skiing accident leaves him with a head injury and a lingering sense that something is off. In the aftermath, he begins to glimpse a strange troll-like figure watching him from the edges of his vision. At first, he dismisses it as a symptom of trauma, but the sightings grow more frequent and more deliberate.
Obsessed and unsettled, he eventually confronts the creature, only to be pulled into a surreal alternate realm. There, he learns the troll is a watcher of stories, able to move between worlds and narratives. As reality unravels, the author faces a devastating truth: he is not the creator, but the created—a character in a story he cannot control, forced to question everything he believed about authorship, identity, and free will.
S.A. Brada is a graduate of Stanford University, where he received a degree in philosophy, and Dartmouth Medical School. He works as an anesthesiologist in Green Bay, Wisconsin. About the Author is his second novel, following his unrelated debut work, The Light at Star’s End, which was self-published. One of his favorite philosophical studies is the philosophy of mind. As such, both of his books deal with questions of how our concept of identity is challenged when everything we think we know is turned upside down.
