1914—a war that drowns three dramas. Trainee nurse Bea Travers is trapped in occupied Brussels, drawn into the double-life of the Yorc escape line. Caught in khaki, Charlie Bull soars from private to lieutenant through skill, endurance and chance. Disgraced Nick Mordeth learns to fly, finds love, stumbles towards redemption before engine failure delivers him into the Yorc network.
What’s in a name? Charlie seeks to discover his. Bea fights to preserve hers. Mordeth must redeem his. Three lives, one battleground. The eternal triangle. 1912. Charlie Bull is a carter’s apprentice in Fairhead, Wiltshire, despised for his illegitimacy. His one true friend is Bea Travers, the doctor’s daughter. Love? Impossible—she’s all but betrothed to Nick Mordeth, the rector’s son. Mordeth tries to take what he thinks is rightfully his. Bea flees Fairhead to train as a nurse at the Berkendael Institute in Brussels. After fighting Mordeth, Charlie leaves and joins the army.
Richard is a former soldier who saw active service in the First Gulf War. Since joining Civvy Street, Richard has worked for British Telecom and SVGC Consulting Limited. He is currently a senior adviser for the Ministry of Defence’s Skynet Satellite communications programme. He lives in Wiltshire with his wife, Caroline; they have two grown-up children. As well as writing, Richard enjoys fishing, golf and painting. He and Caroline are also renovating a house in the Greek Peloponnese—very slowly. Wipers –– Bastion is the first of a planned trilogy.
