What’s this?

The Search is about Matt Calabi, a 1954 grocery store worker, who seeks a gold goblet lost in Nazi occupied Rome in 1943 at the request of Signora Doiporto, a longtime customer. He will be awarded one million dollars if he finds the goblet in four months.

The journey evolves into finding lost gold, books and his own demons. Opposing him is Mrs. Beatrice Soncino, Signora Doiporto’s cousin, and Mr. Francesco Tomaso, her grandnephew.

Matt lands in Rome and stays at a famous hotel where he is smitten with Bella, the hotel owner’s daughter. Matt receives assistance that leads him to meet a Mafia boss and an expert in Kabbala, Jewish mysticism, to find the gold. He accidently learns of the stolen volumes from two Jewish libraries.

Matt’s restless return to life in Brooklyn leads him to agree to revisit Rome to repatriate the items and relish a new life.
