1939, Warsaw. Jakub, a Jewish film producer, and Natalia, a Christian actress, are deeply in love, but their family’s differences and Marek, a man obsessed with Natalia since childhood, stand in their way.
When the Nazis invade, they seal Jakub behind the ghetto‘s walls. Driven by a love she was forced to abandon, Natalia joins the resistance in a desperate fight to get back to him, but she is pursued by Marek, now a vengeful black marketeer.
Inside the ghetto, a mysterious SS Officer takes a chilling interest in Jakub’s piano music, while an antisemitic priest finds his values tested by the immense suffering he witnesses. Meanwhile, a famous Polish actor risks his life forging documents to save Jewish lives.
As the ghetto transforms into an urban battlefield, Natalia must navigate a world of smugglers and spies while Jakub finds his true purpose leading a desperate rebellion. In the chaos of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, they will soon discover that the one thing worse than the spectre of death is a broken heart.
I am a consultant surgeon in Hertfordshire and have Polish Jewish ancestry. I have been haunted by the story of the Warsaw Ghetto—the Jews who dared fight back, and the Poles who risked everything to help them. I play lead guitar in a band and have a fascination for cooking.
