What’s this?
It’s 1517 and Scotland has finally made peace with England. But with a five-year-old king, an absent governor and the country bitterly divided, the real battle is just beginning.
As traitors and trouble-makers circle the throne, the French diplomat Antoine de Lissieu is sent to guard a notorious bandit, in the wild frontier region of the Marches. It seems like a straightforward task, which will finally allow him to go home. But Antoine soon finds himself fighting against shadowy forces who will stop at nothing to win power.

AK Nairn was born in the Scottish Borders. He grew up fascinated by the bloody history of this now sleepy region. In particular, he was drawn to the tale of a French diplomat, who was given the thankless job of keeping order on the frontier. He felt that ‘Antoine’ deserved greater recognition, so devised this series to give him some belated time in the sun. Or at least in the icy wind and rain. When AK is not writing fiction, he is plain old Andy and heads up a much-awarded ad agency in London and New York.
