Icarus and the Virgin is the story of the teenaged Bassianus as he explores the constraints attendant upon being both the embodiment of the sun god and heir to the Roman Empire. Fearful of her elders’ expectations, and confused as to her true role, the newest Vestal Virgin, Aquilia Severa, is ready to fulfill her destiny.
The young Bassianus, the high priest of the god Elagabalus, and his conniving family, are determined to gain power at any cost. All while the young Aquilia and Bassianus struggle to assert their blossoming sexuality in very different ways.
Against the Roman Empire’s casual violence, uncaring cruelty and astonishing betrayals, Aquilia and Bassianus’ relationship moves inexorably towards its shocking conclusion.
